Giuseppe Sardi, Architect
The Venetian architect Giuseppe Sardi (1624-1699) was the son of the Swiss Italian architect and sculptor Antonio Sardi. He is known mainly for the facades of his often sumptuous baroque churches: Santa Maria dei Carmini, San Lazzaro dei Mendicanti, Scalzi and Santa Maria del Giglio. He also designed much of the interior of the Ospedaletto, where he nevertheless left one of his most notable works, the elliptical staircase (1666).
