Piazza San Marco
St. Mark's Square in Venice is one of the most important monumental squares in the world, recognized throughout the planet for its beauty and architectural integrity. It is also known as The Hall of Europe or La Piazza.
It is the only urban space in Venice that properly takes the name piazza, since all other square-shaped spaces are properly defined as campi. Its main body has a trapezoidal shape, and is delimited by the old, the new and the very new Procuratie. Its architectural development is of strange beauty compared to the monumental complex of the basilica of the same name and the imposing bell tower of San Marco that dominates the square.
