Ca Foscari Tour

Ca' Foscari Tour gives the opportunity to visit the historical seat thorough an interesting itinerary, discovering the palace history and its architecture. Ca’ Foscari, built by the Doge Francesco Foscari in 1452, is a magnificent example of Venetian Gothic architecture.

For its special position on the Grand Canal, the palace was used as a representative building and gave hospitality to many important guests until it became the seat of the first School of Commerce in Italy, in 1868. During the tour visitors can admire the external courtyards, the interventions of the great architect Carlo Scarpa and they will have the unique chance to enjoy a breathtaking view of the Grand Canal.

Since March 2009 a new service of guided tours of Palazzo Foscari is offered. Visitors can admire the external courtyards, the Aula Magna Mario Baratto designed by Carlo Scarpa and the most recent findings of the last restoration, following an interesting itinerary of study, art and history.

Ca Foscari Tour Days

The Ca Foscari Tours take place on Saturday mornings starting at 10:00, 10:40, 11:20, 12:00 from the courtyard of Ca' Foscari. No reservation is necessary. Ca' Foscari students will accompany you on this special tour. They will be waiting for you at the Ca' Foscari Tour desk at least 10 minutes before the indicated departure time at the courtyard of Ca' Foscari (Dorsoduro 3246, 30123 Venice).

The tours, lasting 40 minutes, are offered free of charge to citizens and all visitors. The tours, in Italian and/or English, will allow visitors to explore the history of the University and its headquarters. Depending on the availability of university spaces, you will be able to admire Ca' Foscari and the Aula Baratto, renovated by Carlo Scarpa and which will captivate you with its magnificent view of the Grand Canal; or Ca' Dolfin and the Aula Magna Silvio Trentin, a richly frescoed 18th-century hall in which to breathe in the atmosphere of the Venice of the past. And then, what else? The Niobe Courtyard, the small 15th-century courtyard in the heart of the headquarters that houses the Shrine of the Cafoscarini who fell in the conflicts of the 20th century and other spaces usually unknown.
