Gothic architecture

Venetian Gothic is the local variant of the Italian Gothic architectural style, in which the requirements of such a special environment and the influences of Byzantine and Islamic architecture come together. This architecture reflects the extensive commercial network of the Republic of Venice at that time. Uncommon in medieval architecture, the style is more characteristic of civil buildings than religious ones, which are the vast majority of buildings that have survived. The best known examples are the Doge's Palace and the Ca' d'Oro.
