Sebastiano Ricci
Sebastiano Ricci (Belluno, 1659 - Venice, 1734) was a Venetian Rococo painter. He moved to Venice at a very young age, where he trained with Sebastiano Mazzoni and Federico Cervelli. From the late 1770s he worked with Giovanni Giuseppe dal Solé in Bologna. Sponsored by Duke Ranuccio II, Ricci obtained numerous commissions in Pisa and Rome, where he lived for a long period. In 1694 he moved to Florence and between 1696 and 1698 he worked in Milan, where he must have met Magnasco. During the following years he settled in Venice, but spent long periods in Vienna (1701-1703), Florence (1706-1707) and London (1712-1716). The paintings of this important Venetian Rococo painter are characterized by a formal language of great movement and very light colors.
