San Polo
San Polo is a district of Venice. The district gets its name from Campo San Polo (Saint Paul the Apostle), the largest in Venice after Piazza San Marco. In this district there are many shops and bàcari, small typical Venetian taverns.
The district of San Polo borders to the north and west with Santa Croce, to the south with Dorsoduro, while the rest of the perimeter is surrounded by the Grand Canal.
The most historically important area is Rialto, the ancient center of commerce of the city and which is connected through the Rialto Bridge with the sestiere di San Marco.
< p>Without a doubt, the area of greatest historical importance is the Rialto area, with its bridge, the typical fish and vegetable market and the church of San Giacomo di Rialto, traditionally considered the oldest in Venice. Also of great interest are the Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari and the Church of San Rocco along with the two great schools: the Scuola Grande di San Rocco and the Scuola Grande di San Giovanni Evangelista.
