Pietro Longhi

Pietro Longhi (Venice, 1702 - 1785) was a Venetian painter. He received his first lessons from Antonio Balestra. In 1719 he moved to Bologna and completed his training with Crespi, who forced him to study nature in depth. In 1730 he returned to Venice and in 1756 he entered the academy. Longhi gained fame for his small-format paintings, as well as working on religious and historical paintings and portraits. His scenes reflect with fine humor the daily, private and official life of the Venetian nobility.
