Corner family
The Corner were one of the richest and most influential patrician families of the Republic of Venice. Among its members, four exponents were elected doges of the Republic of Venice: Marco Corner, from 1365 to 1368; Giovanni I Corner, from 1625 to 1629; Francesco Corner, for nineteen days in 1656; and Giovanni II Corner, from 1709 to 1722.
Also belonging to this family was Caterina Corner, who was the last queen of Cyprus, first as consort of King James II of Lusignan, then as regent for her son James III of Lusignan, and finally as sole ruler from 1474 to 1489. It owes to her the annexation of Cyprus into the dominions of the Serenissima, in fact she was forced to abdicate in 1489 in favor of the latter and returned to her homeland.
