Canal Grande
The Grand Canal is the main canal that crosses the historic center of Venice, dividing it into two parts. Its layout forms an Ƨ, which goes from the crossing of the Ponte della Libertà to the San Marco Basin.
The Grand Canal is flanked along its entire length by magnificent palaces, mostly from the 12th to 18th centuries, demonstrating the power and wealth of the Republic of Venice. Three bridges cross the Grand Canal: Scalzi, Rialto and Accademia.
