Venice is also famous for its historic cafés. Imported from the Ottoman Empire around 1615, since 1683 many cafes spread throughout the city. The December 29, 1720 was opened the famous Caffè Florian, still active in Piazza San Marco, under the Procuratie Nuove, and in 1775 opened another famous coffee, the Caffè Quadri.
